A few heads from the streets of York seeing as we'll all be out guising tonight as it used to be known in the olden days.
Way back in the olden days supermarkets in the UK hadn't realised they could make money by selling shoppers cheap tat to decorate their houses for this spooky night. There were no pumpkins back then it was turnips the kids of Scotland used, which might have been a tough carving job for the old lady. The only pumpkins I saw back then were on Scooby Doo!
Melon is what you want to be carving easy to carve out and it always gets eaten. Never carved pumpkin so that's could be easy too, actually I've never carved turnip but I know they're solid! Being honest I've never carved a melon either I leave all that kind of stuff to the missus.
I didn't do dressing up as a kid and I certainly don't do it as an adult I much prefered the night a week later when I was out burning anything that I could find. So for around a week the gang would go around doors trying to get any old wood people had for our bonfire. Thankfully my pyromaniac tendencies are slightly under control and I don't always feel the need to burn down everything!
As always here's a wee tale to tell the kids by their spooky pumpkins, turnips or melons when the lights are low and the wee spooks are hiding in the shadows.
I name no name, but its sordid fame is table talk in hell....... LINK
I shall be partaking in a little spookfest tonight at a special screening of Nosferatu onboard the oldest British built warship still afloat. Better make me a crucifix.
